Dr. James Greeson
Born 1951 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, James is a guitarist, composer, and Area Coordinator of Music Theory at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He first began playing guitar in his hometown of St. Louis and has performed with such artists as Ed Soph, Joe Davis, Rich Matteson, and Grady Tate. He was a featured performer at the 1993 Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation's annual meeting, Director of the 1993-94 Arkansas Jazz Heritage Big Band, and leader of his own group based in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Greeson, who holds a doctorate in composition from the University of Wisconsin, composes in both jazz and classical idioms. His classical works have been premiered in Carnegie Hall, and recorded and performed across the country, including a commision from Little Rock's Quapaw String Quartet. He is published by the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Press and Kendor.
