James Leary
James Leary is a bassist from Little Rock, former student of the late Art Porter, Sr., and a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Leary is an active professional living in Los Angeles. He has performed with Nancy Wilson, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Liza Minelli, Eddie Harris, Buddy Rich, Sonny Rollins, Nat Adderly, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Boston Pops with John Williams, Count Basie Orchestra, and his own group, the James Leary Orchestra.
Leary has recorded with Stan Getz, Count Basie, Earl 'Fatha' Hines, and numerous other artists. He also has several recordings under his own name on the Vital label. Leary toured nationally in 1995 with the musical "Five Guys Named Moe," based on Louis Jordan's music. Presently he is touring with the Count Basie Orchestra and makes residence in Los Angeles, California.
