  • Thursday, January 20 - (Fayetteville) Trumpeter Gary Gazaway (El Buho) at Chester's (422 W. Dickson St.in Fayetteville). His unique blend of jazz, rock and funk combine to make a musical force to be reckoned with. For more info call Chester's at (501) 587-0521

  • Saturday, January 22 - 8:00pm (Fayetteville) JAZZ VOCALIST NNENNA FREELON at Walton Arts Center. Nnenna Freelon has recorded five albums and been recognized for her achievements with three Grammy nominations, two Soul Train "lady of Soul" nominations and several other honors and awards. "Be sure to hear Nnenna...very hip music""...Aretha Franklin. "Nnenna is a wonderful song stylist...there's so much heart in what she does"...Herbie Hancock. Tickets are available by phone.   • Fri,Sat January 28,29 - (Little Rock) Guitarist Mark Elf, accompanied by David Higginbotham, bass and Dave Rogers, drums. Location: Starr's Live in the River Market, downtown Little Rock. Shows start at 8:30pm and 11:30pm. Tickets are $10. Workshops at UALR and/or Starrs Guitars possible but not yet scheduled.

  • Sat, January 29 - (Little Rock) Mark Elf Jazz Guitar Workshop. UALR Fine Arts Building, Room 101A. Time: 1:pm. Free and open to the public. Mark Elf is one of the most highly respected guitarists on the jazz scene today. ╩He has performed and recorded with many jazz greats including Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson and others. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to learn from a jazz master. Sponsored by the UALR Student Guitar Society and the Office of Campus Life. James Williams - piano, Christian McBride - bass, and Jeff "Tain" Watts -drums. Ticket are $12 for current members of the North Arkansas Jazz Society, $15 to the public, and $6 for students.
