October 1998
- October 1 -- Cypress Jazz and the UALR Music Department present Blue Note recording artist Kurt Elling. Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, UALR, 7:30pm. Tickets $15, $8 for students. Call (501) 569-3294 for more information.
- October 2 -- The Walton Arts Center and the North Arkansas Jazz Society present jazz vocalist Kurt Elling with the Laurence Hobgood Trio, 8pm in the Starr Theatre of the Walton Arts Center. Tickets: $8-general admission, $15 for a cabaret table seat up front. Call (501) 443-5600 for tickets and more information. [Press release]
- October 2 -- Take Five Series features the El Buho. 5:30pm to 7:30pm on the Decorative Arts Museum Lawn at 7th & Rock. Admission free for Arts Center members, $5 at the door for non-members. Food, wine, beer, soft drinks available with a different restaurant sponsor every week starting with La Scala Restaurant. In case of rain to to Arts Center in MacArthur Park.
November 1998
- November 24th -- Saxophonist Michael Marcus from New York. "Over the past ten years, saxphonist Michael Marcus has carved out a niche with his stritch, a unique instrument that was championed in the '60s by Rahsann Roland Kirk and played by very few other saxophonist since then." - Bill Milkowski of JazzTimes. The instuments to which Mr. Milkowski is referring are the Staight Saxophone or Saxello (confiqured soprano, dubbed manzello by Rahsaan). The Marcus Discography includes 10 CDs; he is featured on half of them. The show features Marcus on saxophone, Chris Parker on piano, Dave Rogers on drums, and Joe Vick on bass. Show starts at 7:30 p.m., $10 general admission. Don't worry about beverages and snacks at Capitol Keyboard Recital Hall, just bring the $10 ticket.
