October 1998

  • Oct 5 -- Tom Richeson Quartet. 8:00pm, $5.
  • Oct 12 -- Pianist Chuck Dodson. 8:00pm, $5.
  • Oct 19 -- Vocalist Sissy Shane Brown with Artistry. 8:00pm, $5.
  • Oct 26 -- Monday Jazz Jam and Showcase. 8:00pm, $3.
November 1998

  • Nov 2 -- Pianist Gene Rush from Memphis, TN. Rush has recorded with such names as saxophonist Eddie Harris, and is one of the South's finest performance pianists and teachers. He has his own group, and has been a member of the Hot Cotton Jazz Band and teaches jazz piano at the University of Memphis. Rounding out his trio will be Joe Vick on bass and Dave Rogers at the drums. $5 cover.

  • Nov 9 -- Trumpeter Nokie Taylor from Memphis, TN. Taylor graduated form Arkansas A.M. and N College (Now UAPB), where his fellow students included John Stubblefield, James Leary, and other Little Rock native jazz greats. While at Stax records in Memphis he toured and/or recorded with such names as Isaac Hayes (toured with for nine years), Jimmy Reed, Percy Mayfield, and Rufus Thomas. His group in Little Rock will include Herman Green on saxophone, Charles Thomas on piano, Joe Vick on bass, and Dave Rogers at the drums. $5 cover.

  • Nov 16 -- The John Craig Trio. Craig, a former member of the Ike and Tina Turner band and the leader of the Arkansas River Blues Society's jam nite house band at Juanita's, will show us his jazz chops. $5 cover.

  • Nov 23 -- Mose Allison. He is back! Need I say more? Two shows 8 and 10 p.m., $10 per show. Tickets available Nov 2, 1998 at the AfterThought and Capitol Keyboard (501) 228-9999.

  • Nov 30 -- Monday Jazz Project Jam and Showcase. Open mike for local area jazz players every last monday of the month. House trio includes Buck Powell on piano, Joe Vick on bass, and Dave Rogers at the drums. $3 cover.
December 1998

  • Dec 7 -- A Rex Bell Jazzy Christmas. Pianist Rex Bell is releasing a new CD with some jazzy Christmas favorites and you are invited to the party. His last offering featured his Hot Hands Band performing the "Suite" the music of composer Claude Bolling. $5 cover. Rex Bell Trio includes Dr. Rex Bell on piano, Joe Vick on Bass, and Dave Rogers at the drums. Starts at 8:30pm.

  • Dec 14 -- The Dave Rogers Trio. Anticipating a CD release. Dave Rogers on drums, Chris Parker on piano, and Joe Vick on bass. $5 cover. Starts at 8:30pm.

  • Dec 21 -- It's that time of year again for Blind Boy White and Friends to perform their annual Christmas week gig at the AfterThought 2721 Kavanaugh, Little Rock, on Monday Dec. 21, 1998. Chris Thomson a.k.a. Blindboy White will be singing, strumming, and blowing his horns accompanied by the Monday Jazz Project house band which features Buck Powell on piano, Joe Vick on bass, and Dave Rogers on drums. Come out for a nip (of Jameson) and enjoy the show. Monday Jazz Project starts at 8:30 p.m., $5 cover.

  • Dec 28 - Holiday Jam and Showcase. $3 cover. Starts at 8:30pm.
Note: Performances may require seating persons at tables where space is available. All Monday Jazz Project events are co-sponsored by The AfterThought, The Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation and the Legacy Hotel. Players planning to sit in on jam nights should sign up in the AfterThought foyer.
