The Afterthought 2721 Kavanaugh Blvd. Little Rock, (501) 663-1196 Chris James (Gootherts) was a popular jazz pianist from 1980 through 1993, having performed with Stan Getz, Carmen McRae, Richie Cole, at some of the biggest jazz festivals in the country, jazz cruises, and notable jazz venues. Chris' first album was released in 1986, and received national radio airplay. When Chris retired from the professional jazz scene in '93 he began a side career as a Christian musician, releasing another 4 albums, and allowing him to perform with Ron Kenoly, Paul Baloche, Phil Driscol, and many other nationally known worship leaders. Chris lived in Little Rock from 2002 to 2004 and lead worship at St. Andrew's Church (Anglican) during that time. During this period Chris also built a strong bond with local jazz musicians Joe Vick and Dave Rogers at the Afterthought. It was this venue that inspired Chris, Dave, and Joe to reform The Chris James Trio and regularly record together whenever Chris would visit Little Rock. On February 8, 2010 at 8pm the Afterthought (in the Hillcrest,) will host a jazz rebirth. Chris, Dave, and Joe will perform as The Chris James Trio and will host an album release party for Chris' first jazz release since 1986. Come celebrate this world debut release of "Just One More Kiss," a mix of live and studio recordings from 2002 through 2009. The recording also includes guest performances by Roy Murdock and Mark Ham. The evening will include live performances from the CD as well as new material. $10 cover. A note from Chris James (Gootherts):
Hello all my Little Rock friends!
I am dropping a quick note to mention that I am returning to Little Rock for a very special occasion. Please consider dropping by the Afterthought (and spreading the word to others to join you) on Monday February 8th. That evening you will witness the "world debut" of Just One More Kiss the first jazz CD I've released since 1986! Over the course of my wonderful time at St. Andrews, I had the pleasure of meeting and recording with Dave Rogers and Joe Vick, and we reformed what I call the Chris James Trio. In subsequent visits we continued to record, both in studio and live at the Afterthought. So from 2002 through 2009 we laid down the tracks for this very special group of 15 songs. I also had the privilege of a couple of guests to the trio on the CD, Mark Ham and Roy Murdock. I hope I get a chance to see everyone Feb 8. God bless all of you, our great friends from our Little Rock years.
