Admission will be $10. Lee Tomboulian will be accompanied by Dave Rogers on drums, and Joe Vick on bass. Lee Tomboulian was a long time resident of Arkansas, and a popular jazz artist in the Little Rock area. He became well known in the Little Rock area for a Latin band called Circo Verde. He presently resides in Appleton, Wisconsin, with his wife Betty, also an accomplished musician. He's on the faculty of Lawrence University where he teaches Jazz Piano and Improvisation, leads Jazz Singers, and teaches String Theory, which includes a string quartet with two guitars. HeΥs performed with numerous notables, including Eddie Harris, Jimmy Witherspoon, Sheila Jordan, Airto, Jack DeJohnette, and Wayne Delano, as well as Tiny Tim and Steve Allen. Tomboulian says he's been blessed to play with wonderful musicians, both those that are well known and those that are not so well known. These musicians include: Eddie Harris, Jimmy Witherspoon, Larry Coryell, Maria Schneider, Kenny Wheeler, Wycliffe Gordon, Sheila Jordan, Don Cheatham, Steve Swallow, Airto, Jack DeJohnette, and Wayne Delano. And...Tiny Tim and Steve Allen. When in Texas, he led a Brazilian/Uruguayan band called Lee Tomboulian and Circo, whose first album was under the name Circo, North/South Convergence. It was produced by the great Hugo Fattoruso. That album and their second album, Return to Whenever, are available on ITunes, Amazon, and CDBaby.com. Tomboulian was in Uruguay in 2003 and loved it. He got to play with Hugo and Rei Tambor (three monstrous candombe drummers), a great honor. The Afterthought Bar is at Beechwood and Kavanaugh in Little Rock. Monday Jazz is a weekly program of the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation, and regularly schedules outstanding jazz programs on Monday nights at the Afterthought. It's going to be a great time, an opportunity to hear outstanding jazz and visit with our old friend Lee Tomboulian, pianist extraordinaire.
