Pianist Buck Powell will be the feature performer Monday January 10, 2005, 8 PM, on the Monday Jazz Project at the AfterThought with Joe Cripps on bass and Dave Rogers at the drums Admission is $5. For years Powell was been regular name when speaking of jazz in Arkansas. He is a native of Little Rock and graduated from Catholic High School in 1982. He attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock becoming its first Jazz Studies graduate and later taught saxophone and the UALR Jazz Messengers ensemble.

Over the years he has transitioned from saxophone to bass to piano. He played in Charles Thomas Artistry, playing bass and understudy to leader pianist Thomas. In the process Powell has become one of the state's leading jazz pianists. He was honored as an inductee into the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame in 1995. He has been a regular part of the AJHF Monday Jazz Project at the AfterThought mainly as the piano player and sometimes as bassist for our house group over the past ten years.
