John Weier on Trumpet John Wier

[Little Rock, AR.]

Monday Jazz Project presents a native jazzer from central Arkansas by way of Kansas City. John Wier-trumpet, with Brian Wolverton-bass, Buck Powell-piano, and Daver Rogers-drums.

The bio:

John Wier is from North Little Rock. He received a bachelors degree in Music Education from Henderson State University and his Masters in trumpet from the University of Missourri-Kansas City where he studied trumpet under Dr. Keith Benjamin. While at Henderson State University Wier studied jazz with Dr. Rick Dimond and Dr. Jim Buckner. He played in the Jazz Ensemble "Nu Fusion" and a small fusion ensemble "5A:. During his studies in Kansas City he played under the instruction of Bobby Watson and Hal Melia. Wier has also studied with Larry McWilliams, professor of trumpet and jazz studies at Ball State University.

In Kansas City , Wier played regularly at the Musicians Foundation, the Blue Room, the Grand Emporium, Blaney's, Harling's, and BB's Lawnside Bar-B-Q. John has also had solo performances with the Little Rock Wind Symphony and the Henderson State Concert Band. His influences include Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan.

Nov 3 - Steve Struthers Trio with Steve Struthers-guitar, Joe Vick-bass, and of course Dave Rogers-drums, 8 p.m., $5 cover.

Nov 10 - John Wier Quartet with John Wier-trumpet, Buck Powell-piano, Brian Wolverton-bass, and Dave Rogers-drums. 8 p.m, $5 cover

Nov 17 - Dan Seickman Trio with Dan Seickman-guitar, Brian Wolverton-bass, and Dave Rogers-drums, 8 p.m., $5 cover.

Nov 24 - Monday Jazz Project Jam Session with Buck Powell-piano, Joe Vick-bass, and Dave Rogers-drums. Jam players signup starting at 7:45 p.m. in After thought Foyer, 8 PM, $5 cover, $1 Jammers.
