McVinney / Atkins SWING 42 TRIO at the Coffee Beanery, 17200 Chenal Parkway

Friday July 26, 2002, 8:00PM to 11:00PM

Byron Atkins: Guitar; Barry McVinney: Flute, Saxophone; With Special Guest Chris Michaels on Bass

This trio provides sophisticated music for any occasion. Their presentation is a varied one: Brazilian bossa novas and sambas, gentle waltzes, gypsy jazz, jazz standards and romantic balladsOO.all performed in their own unique style.

Guitarist Byron Atkins observed the time-honored jazzeris tradition of soaking up the ambiance of Paris where he played in cafes and worked with musicians who played the Django Reinhardt style. He kept his edge on American jazz performing in jazz clubs like Club Vognporten in Copenhagen.

Flutist/saxophonist Barry McVinney is an exciting soloist and performer who is comfortable in a variety of styles from classical to jazz. For two years he toured 46 states and Canada while playing in Broadway shows. He earned a Doctorate of Music Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Chris Michaels is a talented musician from Shreveport, Louisiana. His bass playing is both inventive and supportive. He has played with various jazz oriented groups in Louisiana and Arkansas.

Atkins and McVinney have been performing together since 1998. They have played at Starris Live in the Rivermarket, the Afterthought Monday jazz series, Vagabonds, Tia Wandas and most recently at Wild Oats Market (formally Beans) and the Coffee Beanery.

The Coffee Beanery is on 17200 Chenal Parkway, west, about .5 miles past the Acura dealership and Kroger on the right. It's next to Chi's Chinese takeout and Domino Pizza in the Centre Shopping Center.
