The Monday Jazz Project for June 3, 2002 features saxophonist
Brandon Dorris, a UCA jazz student and regular at our monthly jam
sessions. Dorris will be backed by the Monday Jazz Trio, Buck
Powell on piano, Joe Vick on bass, and Dave Rogers at the drums. 8
p.m., $5 cover.
Born in Kansas on December 30, 1981 Brandon Dorris grew up in and
around Conway, Arkansas and graduated in 2000 from Dardanelle High
School. He is currently music major at the University of Central
Arkansas where he studies the saxophone with Dr. Jackie Lamar and is
coached by Larry Jones in UCA Jazz Ensemble I. Brandon also performs
with the fall marching and symphonic bands, spring wind ensemble,
saxophone choir, saxophone quartet, Dixieland Band and UCA Jazz
Combo. He has played with saxophonist Chris Vadala and trombonists
Tony Baker and Tom Brantley since he has been at UCA. Brandon is a
member of the Honorary Band Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi, Epsilon Beta
chapter. His jazz influences are Lester Young, Charlie Parker,
Charlie Mingus, Sonny Rollins, and John Coltrane.

June 24 - Monday Jazz Jam with House Band featuring Buck Powell on
piano, Joe Vick on bass, and Dave Rogers on drums, 8 p.m., $3 / $1

The Monday Jazz Project is sponsored by the Afterthought and The
Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation. The Afterthought is now the
longest running weekly jazz Venue in Arkansas. The Monday Night
Jazz tradition has served up live jazz since the middle 70's on
Monday Nights. Our latest reincarnation The Monday Jazz Project, has
entertained listeners since December 1995 without loosing a beat.
The Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation is celebrating 10 years of jazz
promotion in 2002.
