Pianist Ann Collins to Play Monday Jazz at the Afterthought Nov. 12, 2001
Ann Collins is one of the leading jazz educators in the country as well as an accomplished performer. She will perform on Monday November 12, 2000 for the Monday Jazz Project at the Afterthought, 8 PM, $5 cover. A Western Illinois University professor emeritus, Ann continually maintains a busy schedule as a clinician and jazz player at the conventions, jazz camps across the country, and writing and arranging jazz books and solos. Her publications include ÒLead Lines and Chord ChangesÓ (Alfred Pub) published Fall 2000, her has was to serve as co-author of ÒJazz WordsÓ, (Alfred Pub) published Fall 2000, her last was to serve as co-author of ÒJAZZ STUDIES GUIDEÓ published January 2001, by Music Teachers National Association and International Association of Jazz Educators.
Most of her students consider one of her special talents to be her ability to bridge to gap between classical music and jazz. Many of her workshops and camps are focused on her teaching traditionally trained pianists to play jazz. She just finished conducting the 10th ANNUAL ANN COLLINS INVITATINAL JAZZ CAMP August 2001 at University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse, Wisc.
She will be playing Monday night November 12th at the Afterthought with Joe Vick on bass, Matt Dickson on saxophone, and Dave Rogers on bass. The Monday Jazz Project is sponsored by the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation and the Afterthought.
Nov 19, 2001 - the Dave Rogers Trio, 8PM, $5 cover. Pianist Bob Dorough who was originally schedule here will perform Saturday night November 17 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1818 Reservoir Rd, Little Rock, 7 PM, Tickets $5 kids, and $10 for adults.
