About Joe LoCascio

Joe LoCascio is a rare and gifted jazz pianist and composer. Both the average listener and the most sophisticated jazz enthusiast have embraced his melodic, passionate music. His relationship to music borders on obsession but it is an obsession from which brilliance results.

From his debut album in 1986 featuring the late Chet Baker to his latest work, LoCascio has shown the continual growth of a serious artist - an observation made by many reviewers of leading jazz periodicals:

Jazziz: "...one of the finest artists on the contemporary jazz scene..."

Jazz Times: " LoCascio is a standout among modern piano stylists. He creates tender melodies and improvises masterfully with a robust keyboard approach.

Austin-American Statesman: "LoCascio is a musician whose creative flame burns so clean and pure the fire within is near invisible even while the light and heat of his playing radiates in all directions.

Houston Chronicle: "...LoCascio has long since established his own voice, both as a player and a composer. A Charmed Life is further evidence that you don't have to move to New York to play in the major leagues of jazz. The show goes on wherever the music lives.

LoCascio studied under John Mehegan and Neil Slater at the University of Bridgeport, and went on to perform with major jazz figures such as Frank Rehak, Dave Liebman, Randy Brecker, Freddie Hubbard, Mel Lewis, Bob Brookmeyer, Pharoah Sanders, Hank Crawford, Ernie Watts, Arnett Cobb, George Coleman, Carl Fontana, George Mraz and Marvin Stamm.

He is currently performing and recording as a solo artist and with various groups. He also serves as lead instructor of jazz studies at Houston Community College. LoCascio is an intense, hard working musician fiercely devoted to his art, constantly striving for what he calls "total honesty with the music."
