UA JAZZ ENSEMBLE CONCERT
The University of Arkansas Jazz Ensemble under the direction of
James Greeson will perform its fall concert featuring a 24 piece big band.
The 100th anniversary of the birth of the great American composer and band
leader Duke Ellington will be honored by a performance of his "Concerto
for Cootie" featuring trumpeter Joe Dearing, and our great local jazz
pianist, Claudia Burson, will be featured playing a solo tribute to Duke
Ellington. Other composers heard will include Sammy Nestico, Miles Davis,
Les Hooper and Victor Lopez. The UA Jazz Sextet, a student group, will
also perform.
The concert will take place at 7:30 pm in the University of
Arkansas' Arkansas Union Theater on Monday, November 15. There is no
admission charge and the concert is open to the public.
WALTON ARTS CENTER PRESENTS
SAN JOSE TAIKO-JAPANESE DRUMS AND DANCE
NOVEMBER 13, 1999 @ 8 P.M.
San Jose Taiko is an Asian-American hybrid, a
musical crossbreed of traditional Japanese Taiko drumming and African,
Balinese, Latin and jazz percussion invigorated with elements of stylized

"...pounding syncopation that could stir immortal drummer Gene Krupa from that
great jazz combo in the sky," writes the Honolulu Advertiser.
