The North Arkansas Jazz Society presents Ray Drummond and the Excursion All Star Band.

The Concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 at the Fayetteville Hilton Hotel.

Ray Drummond - acoustic bass....What separates Drummond from other bassists is his abilities as bandleader and composer. The Excursion Band showcases his splendid understanding of melody and his spiritual link to African rhythms. Stephen Scott - piano...A leader in his own right, Scott is Sonny Rollins pianist of choice. David Sanchez - tenor...This young Puerto Rican saxophonist played in Fayetteville 2 years ago to a sold-out crowd. His intense Latin rhythmic sense and powerful delivery are irresistible. Craig Handy - saxophone...Another young, gifted player with a delivery that can be both searing and soothing. He was one of the featured performers in the Robert Altman film, "Kansas City." Billy Hart - drums...Veteran musician, Hart, played his first professional gig with singer Shirley Horn. He's since played and recorded with Wes Montgomery, Marian McPartland, Herbie Hancock, Stan Getz...need we say more! Mor Thiam - percussion...From Senegal, Africa, Mor rounds out the band with his African drums, smoothly blending the traditional rhythms with the elements of jazz.

Also, as luck would have it, The Excursion Band will be featured on 91.3 FM, KUAF radio on Branford Marsalis' "Jazz Set", Sat. Feb. 6 at 11:00 p.m., recorded live at the Monterey Jazz Festival where they stole the show last summer.

Call the Hilton for details on the Ethiopean Buffet available from 5:30pm to 7:30pm before the concert & for special room rates, "Take the elevator home after the show!!" 501-442-5555.

Further support for this event provided by KUAF Radio, The University of Arkansas Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, and the Fayetteville Hilton.
