Press Release
August 17, 1998

North Arkansas Jazz Society

Just a quick note to let you know that Sept. and Oct. will be "jazz rich" in terms of world class live performances in N.W. Arkansas.

The North Arkansas Jazz Society will present the "Orquesta de Jazz Y Alto Maiz," an eleven piece Latin Jazz Ensemble, on Friday, Sept 25 at the Jones Center in Springdale. Details are yet to be determined (ticket price, time, etc) but believe me when I say this is one hot band. They play the music of Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Dizzy Gillespie, and originals. Piano, bass, drums, a four piece horn section and four percussionist drive this band. Wear your dancing shoes! And by the way, anyone interested in volunteering to help with promotions, advertising, or ticket sales should contact me at RSGinskins@aol.com or call (501)521-1255. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The University of Arkansas will present The John Adams Quartet on Wednesday, September 23 at 8pm in the Fine Arts Concert Hall in Fayetteville. This is a world class, straight -ahead jazz ensemble. A $4 donation will be collected for admission to go towards the NAJS scholarship fund for U of A jazz studies music students.

The Walton Arts Center and the North Arkansas Jazz Society will present jazz vocalist extraordinaire, Kurt Elling with the Laurence Hobgood Trio on Friday, Oct. 2, 1998 at 8pm in the Starr Theatre of the Walton Arts Center. If you haven't heard or read about Kurt Elling, he is considered one of the truly original voices in jazz today, with 3 Cds on BlueNote records. He has received world recognition and accolades from the critics. This is a small venue, very intimate (230 seats), so don't wait to get your tickets (a giveaway at $8-general admission, and $15 for a cabarat table seat up front). Call (501) 443-5600

The Hot Springs Jazz Festival runs from Sept 11-13. Headliners include Terence Blanchard, Tom Cummings Quartet, Shirley Chauvin, and Shades of Blue Airforce Ensemble. Call (501)767-5482

The Eureka Springs Jazz Fest is from Sept 18-19. Headliners are Herbie Mann, The Dave Rogers Trio, Angela Hagenbach & Musa Nova. Call (501)253-5732.
